The important dates and proposed schedule for the revaluation and
preparation of the 2006 Property Tax Digest are listed below. Many factors
affect these dates, and they are subject to change. (NOTE: Some dates
updated as of 03/24/06.)

Schedule Details
- May 2, 2005 - "Field Work Commences" - AVTACS, Inc. field staff begin
inspections of all property in Greene County.
- January 1, 2006 - "Statutory Assessment Date" - Date set by law for values
to be determined. Your fair market value is based upon what you own on
January 1 and the value of that property as of that date.
- March 31, 2006 - "Field Work Ends" - Field inspection of all property in
Greene County ends. AVTACS, Inc. will begin their review of local sales
and cost data to make final adjustments to appraisals made during the field
data gathering period. There may be some further rechecks in the field as information
gathered is reviewed.
- April 1, 2006 - "Return Deadline" - Legal deadline for filing a property tax
return form PT-50. Any property that you own on January 1 that is not
returned for taxation by April 1 is subject to a 10% penalty. However, if
your property has not changed from the preceding year, you do not have to
file a return unless you want to declare a different value.
- May 10, 2006 - "COA Notices" - Change of Assessment Notices mailed out to
taxpayers.
- June 23, 2006 - "Appeal Deadline" - Deadline for taxpayers to file an appeal
of the changes made by the board of tax assessors to their property value.
- July 7, 2006 - "Propose Millage Rates" - County Governing Authority and
School Board meet to set proposed millage rates.
- July 12, 2006 - "Publish 5-Year History of Digest" - Publish in the local
newspaper the five year history of the changes to the tax digest and taxes
levied to allow public to see if taxes have changed substantially in the
revaluation year from what has been charged in the last five years.
- July 26, 2006 - "Finalize Millage Rates" - County Governing Authority and
School Board hold public hearing to finalize the millage rate.
- August 1, 2006 - "Digest Submission" - Deadline for the tax commissioner to
submit the 2006 Tax Digest to the Department of Revenue.
- August 15, 2006 - "Tax Notices" - Tax bills will be sent to all property
owners.
- November 15, 2006 - "Tax Payment Deadline" - Deadline for the payment of
2006 property taxes. After this date interest will begin to accrue at the
rate of 1% per month (12% annually). If the taxes are still not paid after
90 days, a 10% penalty will apply to all non-homesteaded property and
homesteaded property where the tax is greater than $500.
